You must be a graduate of one of the following workshops is before signing up for our Personalized Tele-coaching:
The Art of Voice Acting 8-week Tele-course Level 1 The Art of Voice Acting 8-week workshop The Art of Voice Acting Weekend Workshop
We use the core concepts from these workshops in our Tele-coaching sessions, and if you’re not familiar with our training process, you’d spend most of your time just trying to catch up:
Regardless of your voiceover training, experience, or which workshop you’ve taken, we do require an audition before we can admit you to our Personalized Tele-coaching class. The purpose of this audition is for us to get a sense of your performing skill as a voiceover talent and to briefly discuss your goals and objectives. It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally we’ll recommend to someone that voiceover may not be right for them. After all, this is show-business, and it’s not right for everyone. Voiceover work requires dedication, passion, and a certain financial commitment for training and equipment. The last thing we want you to do is waste your time, energy, and money on something that isn’t right for you.
Personalized Tele-coaching is all about mastering the craft of voiceover
As part of a Tele-coaching group, you’ll be assigned one or more scripts each week that cover the entire range of voiceover work during 8 coaching sessions. Each script you perform will be critiqued by James and Penny for the specific purpose of improving your performing skills.
Here’s how it works:
- Each week, at a designated time, you’ll call a special phone number to connect with your Tele-coaching group.
- During each call, we’ll work on a specific aspect of voiceover: single-voice commercial; dialog; industrial narration; audio book; character/animation; promo/trailer; imaging; telephone IVR; etc. You may have a preference or aptitude for one or more types of voiceover, but the more you know about every aspect of voiceover performance, the better and more versatile a performer you will be.
- As a Tele-coaching student you’ll receive an e-mail with a link to the script(s) and information we’ll be working with the following week.
- It’s your job to download the script, wood shed it, rehearse it, and record your best performance on your home computer.
- You’ll then save your best take as an MP3 file and e-mail it to us for evaluation.
- We’ll evaluate and critique each performance during the next week’s Tele-coaching session. PLUS, we’ll work with you during the call to make sure you understand our suggestions, direction, and coaching.
Each weeks Personalized Tele-coaching session is recorded and will be available for download, so you’ll be able to review your performance and learn from the other students in your Tele-coaching group.
In order to get the most out of your Tele-coaching sessions we highly recommend the use of a telephone headset so both hands can be free to move as you perform. Alternatively, if you have a home studio, you can use a phone patch device to connect your studio with your phone system. We also suggest a copy stand (music stand) to hold the copy so you can stand when working with your scripts. Standing will give you better breath support and greater freedom to move during your performance.
