So... VOICE 2010 presents a group of talented performers who make a very nice living in places other than tinsel town and the big apple. The Voiceover from the Trenches panel is a collection of seasoned professionals, diverse in their talents, geographic locales, and career paths. What do they have in common? Voice Acting is their primary career, and our panelists have each built internationally recognized reputations through years of dedication, trial and error, and hard work.
They'll be on stage to answer questions that puzzle performers who are on a path that our panelists have been treading for years. Candid, brutally honest, and filled with useful information, good humor, and plenty of laughs - don't miss Voiceover From The Trenches - The Working Pros!
ABOUT JOHN TAYLOR:
Beginning in High School as a narrator for educational materials, John Taylor has spent most of the last three decades in front of a microphone. As a morning host in New England and South Florida he populated his radio shows with a cast of characters and celebrity impressions of his own creation. While at Emerson College, John honed his comedic skills working with talents like Dennis Leary, Laura Kightlinger, Anthony Clark and David Cross. "Our college comedy troupe, 'This Is Pathetic' would fade the stage to black and do set changes while the audiences listened to ‘audio comedy bits’ in the dark. That's when I fell in love with theater of the mind." Widely known as a vocal "Swiss army knife", John's versatility has served him well since becoming a full time voice actor. He works mainly in commercial but can also be heard doing narration, promos, video games, audio books, animation, radio imaging and as a live event announcer. "I love the challenge, I want to do it all!”
ABOUT THE PANELISTS:
JANET AULT: www.janetault.net
Janet Ault has been a professional voiceover actress and "in the trenches" for over a decade and records from her ProTools and ISDN-equipped home studio in Scottsdale, Arizona. This is Janet's "second career" having been an account executive with Bell Atlantic and 3M Corporation until the early 90's. This experience prepared her for never being afraid of "cold-calling" nor rejection as well as the ability to be a savvy marketing person in the voiceover world. With years of experience in radio and TV commercials, narration, e-learning, imaging and interactive projects, Janet is eager to break into the world of promos and has been focusing much of her energy in this area. Janet never stops keeping herself "out of her comfort zone" by traveling the country for workshops. In addition, she has studied with the awe-inspiring Nancy Wolfson of Braintracks Audio and received hours of expert teaching from the likes of Mr. Pat Fraley. Visit www.janetault.net and see why Janet is known as "The Voice of Choice®.”
PHILIP BANKS: www.philipbanks.com
A former Investment Director for a Swiss Merchant bank at the ripe old age of 30 Philip Banks found himself sitting in front of a mic doing a "voice over" for a friend who worked as a radio producer. From that point on it was all downhill. In 1992 Philip moved from investment banking to being what he likes to call "a Voiceoverist".
Philip spends most of his time in a VO booth about 100 yards from the beach in the little Scottish village of Portgordon. ISDN connected to the world, his credits are global CNBC, CNN, BBC, Zone Horror (guess what type of movies they show) and he's even been used as a voice on The Queen starring Helen Mirren and Volver starring Penelope Cruz.
Of his success Philip says. "Were I to move to LA I'd be one of the top ten voices in town so I'm staying in Portgordon because here I'm the number one!" Out of how many Philip?
